Bentley to unveil V8 GT
15/12/2011
In February this year we reported on four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen driving a Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible on the frozen waters of the Baltic Sea, to set a new world speed record for driving on ice at 205.48 mph. The car of choice was an all-wheel drive 6-litre, 12-cylinder Continental Supersports Convertible.
To celebrate this record, Bentley have announced that they will be unveiling a V8-powered version of its all-wheel drive Continental GT and GTC at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit; the 2012 show runs from from January 9-22.
This latest Bentley creation will use a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged engine producing 500 bhp at 6,000 rpm, as well as 487lb ft of torque between 1,700-5,000 rpm. The new powertrain will include an eight-speed automatic gearbox, allowing the Continental to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than five seconds and on to a top speed of more than 180mph.
